Brian will be moderating two panels. These events are open to the public.

The first panel is titled “Drug Use and the Criminal Justice System: The State of the State” and takes place at 10:00am in the Grand Ballroom. Co-moderators include Sheriff Jason Sandholdt of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Dale Woolery, Director of the Iowa Governor’s Office of Drug Control Policy. Panelists include Tracie Gardner (Vice President of Policy Advocacy for the Legal Action Center), Daniel Zeno ( Policy Director with ACLU of Iowa), Dr. William Garriott (Associate Professor in the Law, Politics, and Society Program at Drake University), and Aaron Whites (Dubuque Program Coordinator with the Iowa Harm Reduction Coalition).

The second panel is titled “Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion Programs” and takes place at 1pm in the Plaza 1 room. Brian’s co-moderator will be Janet Lyness (Johnson County Attorney, Johnson County Attorney’s Office). Panelists include Kris Nyrop ( Director of Harm Reduction Practices at the Public Defender Association in Seattle, WA), Melissia Larson (LEAD Program Coordinator with the North Carolina Harm Reduction Coalition), and Donnie Varnell (an investigator with the Dare County North Carolina Sheriff’s Office).
